Excellent and unforgettable experience

I traveled alone, on my own to Peru. And I went to Rancho Santa Ana one to ride, one morning and it really was spectacular! The reception of Doña Andrea and the guide and horseback riding company of Don Manuel, excellent. The tour went to the Pomac Forest, we entered the back sector and visited two huacas. The horses very noble and in excellent condition. Loved it! I recommend the experience, you cannot leave Peru without riding the Peruvian Horses in Passage!

Nice place for relaxing and horseback riding

Rancho Santana is a beautiful place surrounded by nature and lots of animals. a place to relax and enjoy the authentic life of a peruvian farm.
We did a nice horseback riding tour to world's largest dry forest visiting the pyramids of Pre-Inca culture. The typical Peruvian Paso horses are very easy to ride and make even unexperienced riders feel comfortable.
I highly recommend this place.

Fun place to stay and wonderful horseback riding tours!

We stayed here on our trip through Peru. I am not good at riding horses, but our tour to the pyramids on horseback was great. The horses were so well trained, that they made me feel competent. The cabin we stayed in was spacious and wonderful. It was a bit hard to find public transportation to Rancho Santana from Chiclayo, but now I know that if you can find the combi to Pacora (we couldn't find it), you can just take a bus or combi to Lambayeque, and from there easily to Pacora. No problem that way.

Not living up to expectations- price-performance-ratio poor

Arriving in Chiclayo it turned out to be quite an expensive struggle to reach the ranch, as no information neither proper address although requested more than a week in advance was given.
It is not really possible to describe this as a proper ranch, and due to the (for peruvian circumstances) expensive fares, one arrives with higher expectations of the place.
Well trained horses, however fairly overprices so called tours.
Upon arrival, we felt pretty lost on the farm as no guidance was given on what to do, where to eat (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and no introduction to the activities. Only after asking a few times, we were given a short answer without receiving proper pricing of any of the given though.
Definitely not worth the money, for a lower price it might be an acceptable stay.

Hi Elisabeth!
I am sorry to read that you didn't like your stay at our place. I am also surprised about, as our guests always are enjoying their time at the rancho and even stay longer that they have booked originally. I am also disappointed to get to know that you were not satisfied with our service through Tripadvisor, as you could have spoken with us directly to be able to change things and make you feel more comfortable.
Our Rancho is a rustic place, but our guests feel happy here.
All our prices you can see on our web. When guests arrive, I always explain them, that they could eat with us, or that there are many Restaurants in the village, which is just a 5 minutes walk from the rancho.. Or they are even allowed to use our kitchen for free to prepare their meals.
It is very easy to get from Chiclayo to the Rancho. You can see how to get here on our Web (Location on "how to get there" even guests who do not speak spanish can find it easy.
"How to get there"
From the Center of Chiclayo take a taxi to the terminal of the village of Pacora (Paradero de Pacora) Every taxidriver knows that terminal. Do not pay more then 4 Soles. From that terminal every 10 Minutes, a small bus (combi) is leaving for Pacora. The bus got a sign at the front window "Pacora" The journey takes aprox 1 hour and costs 3 Soles. When you are in the village of Pacora, take a mototaxi to the Rancho (2 Soles) we are only 300 meters behind the catedrale of the village. Our phone nr. is 97 971 21 45 in case anything.
With only 3 Soles (1 US) you can get from Chiclayo to Pacora! You must have taken a privat taxi which costs normaly around 60 Soles (20 US) and maybe the driver did charge you way too much?
Our tours are very cheap, Tour A for example (55 Soles for 3 hours,= around 18 US) compared with other stables like in Cusco "Perol Chico", Trujillo or stables in Lima where they also offer riding on peruvian Pasohorses. At those places you would pay for a couple of hours 100 US.
Keeping a horse is very expensive, to feed it or when it gets sick! They are not like a machine which you can switch off when no clients arrive, you have to feed them and take care of them 365 days a year, even there are no guests coming. In Nicaragua I got offered a horse for rent for 5 US for 1 day, but it was a scelett with skin!
Maybe you know how much riding costs in Germany?
To be able to offer horse riding and accomodation it is only possible if you earn enough money. We are struggling quite hard to survive and keep on offering our place.
Anyway we could not figure out who you are! We didn't have no guest Name Elisabeth in July. There was one Elisabeth but she was very friendly and happy here, she even helped my husband to feed the animals and also used our kitchen to prepare her meals. So it couldn't be you.
