You are in for a pleasant surprise

I stayed in this hotel for five nights and days while attending a conference at the Congress Centre. It is delightfully close to the Congress center as well as to the tram stations at Messeplatz where from trams go directly to the Bahnhof, the main train station. The name of the hotel is not displayed very prominently and from the appearance of the main entrance it may look small, but it is a hidden treasure. The reception staff is very polite and friendly. It has an elevator and a free wi-fi. The room had a fridge, TV and telephone .There was no AC in my room but with the window opened, I was comfortable. The room and washroom were cleaned every day with the linen replaced. The breakfast was as good as a five-star hotel, served by courteous and friendly staff in a tastefully decorated dining room.

Promised hotel room, got an Airbnb apartment room

Our party of 5 paid the Hotel Locanda with reservation to stay in the Hotel, one block away from Messeplatz for the Basel World fair, however when we arrived, we were given apartments under Locanda, another 10 minutes walk away.
This is terrible because in the apartments is basically Airbnb style, which if we knew ahead of time we would have just gotten an Airbnb instead of this overpriced Locanda Apartments. The apartments do not have irons, or many amenities however only after we walked back to the hotel to complain, then they offered to give us, especially after we already purchased these amenities for ourselves.

Great hotel

Stayed here for one night to watch europa cup final. Good location, very clean and tidy. The staff were all amazing and friendly. Great breakfast can't fault the stay in any way. Room was fab and large with a little balcony. I had a delivery to the hotel and they were pleased to help. Stay here you will not be disappointed great tatters for money!!

My New Basel Home

I've been going to the Basel Watch Fair for nearly 30 years, and have stayed in approximately 20 different places, including commuting from Zurich. This small, family-run hotel was short on frills but long on personality and customer service. I've already booked us for next year.

Tiny No Frills but GREAT

I have been traveling to Basel for 30 years for the BaselWorld watch fair and stayed in many different hotels along the way. This year, i stayed at Hotel Locanda --a very small, no-frills hotel. The cons- as i said, small, no frills. The pros: amazingly friendly family staff, good breakfast and - best of all- a block away from the fairgrounds. Mind you, i am reluctant to post how much I liked this hotel, as I want to be able to go back again and again, but it is only fair to give credit where credit is due. The rooms are tiny, the bathrooms tinier. One pillow, one bottom sheet on the bed, no top sheet. BUT this is all forgotten shortly when one experiences the super friendly staff that always asks how to help, and when one has to walk just a few blocks to get to the fair. Again, no frills but fabulous.
