Fantastic area around the corner from Dam Square. Hotel is very clean, no complaints basic, large rooms! Happy stay!

Hotel is right at Dam Square. Public transit: trams, Metro, canal cruises just minutes away. Great shopping, bars, cafes, restaurants l. East access to all the tourist attractions. Lovely to walk the streets in this area. Very happy I chose this clean, well managed historic hotel. Large rooms too!

OK, but I would rate it a 2 star hotel

I recently stayed here for two nights. It was supposed to be longer, but I had to find a nicer hotel.
I'll start with the pros: The location is fairly central (right off Dam square), the breakfast was pretty good. The staff were pleasant. The room and bathroom were large.
The cons: I would rate it a 2 star hotel at best. It was like a throw back from 1965 Russia. Very dated with extremely plain rooms. Personally, I felt the elevated bath tub was quite dangerous to get in and out of. Even holding on to the grab bar, I slipped a bit. Would definitely be a hazard for older folks.
The fluorescent lighting throughout the hotel was bizarre and quite frankly depressing. The walls and ceilings are thin. I could constantly hear someone walking above me on old wood floors (?) I believe a main hallway was above it somehow? While the room was clean, the carpet (and dropped ceiling) were quite old/dated. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this hotel. That being said, if you like a time capsule, this may be the place for you.

Good location however put in a room with no air con, 32 degrees and given a mini fan which hardly worked. We had to put our window open but its so busy in city centre could hardly sleep. When we asked at reception they said nothing er can do and the night shift worker was very rude. Our friends checked in much later than us and had an air conditioned room so its very poor to say there are none available. There's far better hotels for the price elsewhere I would avoid

Central location and although given earplugs in room they were not needed. Air-conditioning worked ok, not blasting out, but left on made the room nice and cool after returning from a day out.
No tea coffee facility in room which was a bit disappointing as a cup of coffee in amsterdam is extortionate. Then again everything is. 30 quid minimum for a round of 4 beers. Ouch.
Rooms a bit dated but clean and serviced every day. Friendly staff and good security with the lift needing your door card to operate. Maybe an ironing board in room would be nice.
Didn't have breakfast but looked ok when viewed.
View was of street and not sure on the "canal view" stated in the blurb. Maybe one room had a view but seemed unlikely.
Overall I liked the hotel very much and would stay again but not until amsterdam gets cheaper or the pound gets better exchange rate or hopefully both.
Took a ride on the double decker train to the coast. 2 tickets 66 euros!!! Another ouch.
