Hotel Sofia is in a quiet area of Matala, yet close to the centre and its shops, bars and restaurants. It is just 50 metres away from the sandy beach and 20 minutes from the famous Red beach.

Friendly and serene

One of the best hotels that is central in Matala. The owners are very caring and make you feel so welcome. Travelling alone they made me feel very safe. Lovely, quiet and secure. I wish I could have stayed longer. Thank you Giorgio and family. Jo from Liverpool

Not recommended. Do not accept a ground floor room.

Hotel Sofia is conveniently located in the center of Matala. Unfortunately, our room on the ground floor was tiny and dingy, the towels dirty, the lighting consisted of naked light bulbs, and the seat outside looked out onto a wall 2 meters away. No luggage rack, no TV. This room wasn't shown anywhere in photos except the better ones on the upper floors. Nevertheless, the same price was charged.

Good vibes only!

We only had one night at the Hotel Sofia, but it was the perfect Matala overnight. Our ground floor room had a quiet courtyard, a very comfy bed and was perfectly clean and cozy with a great shower. Right in town yet very quiet, we were mere moments from the beach. Josh was very helpful and booked us a taxi to the airport. This is an ideal bohemian bolt hole for a beach getaway: no frills but lots of warmth and good vibes.

Great

Nice location, staff very kind and attentive, good choice of breakfasts, wide room with the only downside that the door of the shower never closed, so any shower caused a minor flood, surely we'll come back

Basic but good!

This is a basic no frills place to stay, but for the price you get a room, working air con, a hot shower, toiletries, towels and a bed. The rooms are cleaned every day. It’s very close to the beach without being on the main strip of Matala, which means it’s peaceful at night. For the price and the central location it’s great value for money. The family who own it were super helpful and easy to deal with. If I was going back to Matala I would stay here again, I don’t think I could find anything cheaper which isn’t in a super loud location!
