Fantastic restaurant
The ambiance and service are delightful and the food is amazing. Every part of each dish is delicious, but the combination of tastes is exquisite! I've eaten at many top class restaurants around the world and Sissy's creations are hard to beat for their feel good factor. The lovely Stephanie is a charming host/waitress and speaks fluent English.

Easter Lunch
We stopped in on the Monday following Easter on our way back home. We were passing through the area and thought we'd give this place a try. It was excellent. The property is charming and authentically Carinthian. We chose the special Easter 4 course menu. The proportions were perfect and we left satisfied and not stuffed. The dishes were exotically spiced. Nothing too overwhelming and all done tastefully and well executed. The staff was terribly friendly. I highly recommend. Thanks for the lovely lunch.

Nice stay at the Sonnleitner
We stayed two nights at the Sonnleitner in a Deluxe Bedroom which was a bedroom and sitting area with an interesting split bath arrangement. One bathroom had a sink and tub. The other bathroom had a toilet, sink, and shower. While the carpeting and bathroom fixtures could definitely use some updating, the rooms were all extremely clean and very comfortable. The hotel's greatest asset is Stephanie Sonnleitner. She seems to run everything and be everywhere at once at all hours of the day and night. She was extremely friendly and spoke fantastic English. Her sense of humor and warmth really enhanced the enjoyment of our stay and the meals that we took in the restaurant. By the way, if you are a World War I buff, be sure to go to the museum in Mauthen. It is even better than the one in Kobarid.

Great food, great rooms
We have dined at the Sonnleitner restaurant in the past. Always good food with a celebrity chef. People come from 100km around just to dine here. But we had never stayed in the hotel before. What a treat. Fresh, welcoming rooms (with a fruit plate waiting) with unique interiors and comfortable beds. And then to have a great breakfast in the morning. Yum.
This town is not on very many itineraries, although it is perched just north of Italy. We found the town delightful, although small, and beautifully kept with an obvious local pride. It is worth a detour. Come for dinner, enjoy a bottle of Austrian wine, stay the night, and then rise to a good breakfast and on with your trip.

Molto costoso
Questo ristorante viene consigliato come il miglior ristorante di Kotschach-Mouthen: in effetti si mangia molto bene, ma a che prezzo...?! Ha una particolare struttura, nel senso che pur essendo un locale molto grande, è composto da diverse stanze, come in una casa. L'accoglienza è buona, il personale che ci ha servito parla bene l'italiano e fortunatamente spiega le portate in maniera dettagliata, visto che tutti i menù sono solo in tedesco. Dopo avere scelto il menù, viene offerto un piatto con piccoli assaggi di antipasti stile nouvelle cuisine, dopodiché arrivano le portate prenotate. Abbiamo scelto tutti un piatto di carne , nel mio caso si trattava di carne di cervo, contornata da verdura cotta e da pochi gnocchi di patate conditi ai funghi, più un cucchiaino contenente una composta di ribes. Un'altra persona al mio tavolo ha preso una pietanza corrispondente ad una tagliata di maiale, comprendente un contorno di verdure. Costo 28 € il piatto a base di cervo, 22 € quello di maiale.
Consultando la carta dei vini, siamo rimasti male a causa dei prezzi elevati, indubbiamente tutti ottimi , ma non c'era scelta di vini alla portata di un normale portafoglio, perciò abbiamo scelto uno Chardonnay da €22: siamo rimasti sbigottiti quando ci è stata portata una bottiglia da mezzo litro.... pareva una beffa. Credo che la cameriera avrebbe potuto dircelo, visto che la carta dei vini era anche essa in tedesco.
Eccezionali i dolci, costo €8.
Contentino finale: un piatto con biscottini
Tutto sommato non ho nulla da contestare sulla bontà del cibo, ma se avessi saputo che si trattava di un locale così costoso, probabilmente avrei optato per un altro ristorante.
