La Cle d'Opale

This building is a shabby chic boutique hotel designed with a modern French touch style in a charming lace-maker house. My husband and I bought it a few years ago to create our cosy B&B. Looking forward to welcoming you soon, Isabelle and Rénald La Clé d’Opale, an elegant B&B in the heart of Calais, offers breakfast included, free WiFi and public parking. Decorated in a unique style, each room features a private bathroom, desk and seating area with a welcome tray. You can enjoy a full breakfast included in the rate, every morning in the breakfast room. You can also enjoy a drink at the bar or relax in the veranda with a view of the terrace. You can enjoy a meal tray on-site upon prior request at the moment of your reservation, or enjoy a meal at one of the nearby restaurants. A public parking is available nearby, or you also have the possibility to request a private parking for an extra cost. Nearby attractions include the International Institute of Lace and Fashion and the Gambetta Forum, both 10 minutes walk from La Clé dOpale. This property will not accommodate hen, stag or similar parties. Please note that check-in is not possible after 22:00. Overnight Stop

Stayed here for the final stop on our journey back to the U.K. from Italy. Even though we were arriving late (6/7pm) Isabelle was ready to greet us. She proceeded to check us in, take our breakfast order and show us to our room.
The room was immaculately clean and spacious with tea/coffee provided. Bed super comfy and a powerful hot shower.
8am the next morning Isabelle knocks on our door and brings in a huge breakfast of pastries, fruit, coffee, orange juice and ham cheese omelettes. All freshly prepared and the perfect start to our final leg back up to Northern England.
Thanks for everything, fully recommend.

Romantic, but…

This B&B is in an old house with historical value so without large possibilities to be modernised. The rooms are aimed to be romantic but rather small. We found two supports for luggage’s very practical when you must open a luggage. The room is rather dark, for example there is no light close to the mirror in the bathroom making shaving and make-up somehow difficult. A water heater is available as well as two coffee bags, with new provided every day. No thee is available. The number of plugs is limited, either you read in your bed or you plug in the charger of your mobile. If you are two, one must load his mobile far from the bed. Not so practical if you activate your alarm clock at the same time. One of the guests has no light to read. In the present Covid-19 time and related hygienic strict measures, we question the need of the long hair carpet, certainly not easy to hoover every day; the carpets in the bathroom are also not so hygienic (remain wet and hard to clean). We would have preferred the typical, specific towels provided in most of hotels. We also question the padded headboard which by its structure accumulates dust and is touched by all the guests without guarantee and even possibility (tissue) of being fully disinfected. The breakfast was fine, not sophisticated. Eggs are prepared upon request, no bacon or mushrooms or tomatoes are available. Ham and classical gouda-type cheese slices are served as well as selection of croissants, jams, cornflakes, fruits etc. Overall a nice, simple breakfast. We consider this place as fair, without being a gem.

Isabelle has great attention to detail and is a natural hostess and a genuine Hotelier .

We have now stayed twice at the hotel while picking up wedding wine.
The hotel is in a great central position ,parking is good outside the hotel .
Rooms are tasteful and clean .
Breakfast is really good with fresh Croissants cold meats cheese Scrambled eggs etc etc.

The perfect B&B

Stayed here overnight before our ferry to Dover. Beds were very comfortable, bathroom was clean, lots of amenities in the room and a wonderful hostess. We had to catch an early ferry so she made us a packed breakfast to go. Would recommended. The perfect overnight stay.

Adorable little place to stay

We stayed here for a stop off picking up wine for our friends wedding and it was the perfect overnight spot. The hospitality was fantastic, the breakfast was so personal and the rooms were spacious yet cosy. The entire place had a wonderful raw french feel to it. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
