Stay at Gästhaus Malgarten
We had an amazing star at Gästhaus Malgarten. The surroundings are both charming and beautiful. I would recommend this for everyone!

A wonderful place
A very special place! We were allowed to spend two nights in this wonderful place and loved it. Our room radiated a very special atmosphere with its ancient wooden ceiling, double-leaf windows and beautiful colorful wooden door. Very suitable also the rustic decor e.g. with a very old wooden cabinet. The whole complex is huge with courtyards and beautiful cobbled paths and at the edge a forest with winding paths. Throughout the grounds, visitors encounter works of art, both small and large.
Breakfast was served in another historic building with many organic products in the buffet. The "Café Lindenblüte" also has a lot of flair and each table is tastefully decorated with flowers to suit the season. Now in March there were forsythias and Easter bells in the vases. In summer you can also sit beautifully outside.
Both the administrator of the monastery and the lady who runs the cafe would be extremely friendly and helpful. We have felt very welcome.
The monastery is an ideal starting point to visit the grounds and museum of the Battle of Varus in Kalkriese and dog owners can start walking directly from the monastery.
Breakfast was served in another historic building with many organic products in the buffet. For anyone who seeks simplicity and tranquility just 2 kms from the highway.
It is not a full fledged hotel but a bed and breakfast thing. But with a full restaurant attached. In a (former) cloister, but the atmosphere remained still. It is spacious, many rooms to linger, with long and complicated corridors, creaking old staircases (attention, worn out steps) floors and woodbeams seem to be from the time it was build 1650s. Lots tranquility and greenery surrounds you. We had room nr.12 which was huge and beautiful. Only the birds waking you up at sunrise are a "nuissance". Period furniture, a large chapel, all in your privacy. On a friday in summer we were the only overnighting guests. They seem to be too shy (or not their style) to agressively market their gem.
The restaurant offers genuine countrside style atmosphere either indoors or under centennial trees.
Price/value is unbeatable. 2person overnight w/ breakfast for under 80 eur, Cloister beer 4eur for half a litre, herring filets w potato salad 9 eur. Most of it home/local made. Recommended: fresh made "flammkuche" (very thin crusty wheat doe, with toppings like bacon, onions,and sour cream; or with salmon; or just herbs. All very light. No, not comparable to a fat and heavy pizza; it is an alsatian/palatinat dish). Oh yes, friendly sercices, too.

Kultur Kloster Malgarten… ein Kleinod im Osnabrücker Land …. ein Ort zum Ausspannen
Wir hatten ein paar Doppelzimmer im Konvent( 1. OG Fenster zum Westen ) gebucht, um eine stimmungsvolle Familienfeier mit Freunden am 29.05. mit Kaffee, Tee, Kuchen und Weinverkostung genießend zu können. Alles war ( dem historischen und einfachen Rahmen) entsprechend von der Iris Laib vorbereitet und arrangiert. Das traumhafte Wetter, der spezielle Ort, Klaviermusik im Refektorium sowie eine engagierte und kompetente Führung von Silke machten diesen Geburtstag zu einem unvergesslichen Event für alle Beteiligten.Wichtig: es handelt sich nicht um einen professionellen Hotel-/ Cateringbetrieb. Eigeninitiative ist angebracht. Kommunikation mitunter mühsam.

En besvikelse
Vi bokade kloster Malgarten med vetskapen om enkla rum men enligt omdömen skulle det vara bra frukost och fint. Men det kändes som att bo på ett dåligt vandrarhem, bilderna på charmiga rum med tjocka stenväggar och mysigt gemensamma utrymmen var inte alls vår upplevelse. Rummen vi fick var lyhörda, trist inredning som påminde om ett sjukhem, men i rummen var det rent åtminstone. Köket ofräscht och luktade sopor. Det fanns några torra rostbrödsskivor, marmelad och smör i en liten plastlåda i kylen.
