The staff were very nice, the room was very comfortable.
The bar was fine, however I ordered hot butter mushrooms and got what i think was aubergine covered in something very heavy

OK room Terrible Service

This is not even a two star hotel. There was one person at the reception who could not communicate in English. The rooms were just OK, however the showers were terrible. There was very low pressure.
The breakfast was a disaster. They were totally understaffed and the kitchen was not suitable and capable for serving breakfast. It took over 20 minutes just to get coffee.
After an hour of waiting for breakfast we left and went for breakfast to a restaurant in the town.
Would definitely not recommend this Hotel.

Avoid This Scam Hotel – A Cautionary Tale for Fellow Travelers

I rarely write negative reviews, but I feel compelled to warn others after our experience at this hotel. What’s advertised online and what you actually get are two very different things.
Let’s start with the pictures: completely misleading. The images online show clean, modern rooms — in reality, the hotel is run-down, moldy, and far from the fresh, welcoming place we expected. It’s hard to believe some of the glowing reviews are for the same place — while a few do reflect reality, many feel suspiciously out of sync.
We booked a family room for 4 and were placed next to another family of 5 — despite the hotel being nearly empty. The walls are paper thin, and we could hear everything. It felt like we were all crammed into one big room with no privacy at all.The room itself? Awful:
Moldy smell, masked poorly by overpowering mothballs
Cockroaches in the room (!)
Stained sheets that didn’t look or feel clean
No hot water in the shower
A “buffet breakfast” that turned out to be just breOK, and definitely not a buffet.After complaining, we were moved to a slightly bigger room — unfortunately, right below the hotel bar. The friendly staff kindly warned us about the music playing until 11pm... but neglected to mention the nightclub next door, which blasted bass-heavy music until 3:30am. It was impossible to sleep.
Although we had booked for 4 nights, we left after just 1. When we asked for a refund, we were flatly denied — even though the hotel was far from full. To make matters worse, we were charged full rack rate during low season. A complete rip-off.
Please don’t be fooled by the website or some of the overly positive reviews. This place is not what it claims to be, and there are far better options nearby that actually respect their guests.
Save yourself the frustration and money — avoid this hotel at all costs.

Dated structure with severe hygiene deficiencies, saved only by the goodwill of the owner

Our stay at Hotel Sunray was unfortunately not positive. The initial reception was cold, almost gloomy, as indeed was the entire hotel environment, both for the dated furnishings and for the attitude of the staff.
The rooms were visibly dirty, with insects and spiders present everywhere. Although the dinner was hearty and in typical local style, we could not appreciate it due to the general feeling of poor hygiene.
The property looks decidedly old and would need a complete renovation. Sorry to say, because the owner was kind and helpful, doing his best to address the obvious shortcomings of the hotel.
Too bad, because with a little extra care it could offer a very different experience.

Typical Private Spectacular Dinner.

The hotel is quite old,
Cleanliness should be better, rooms are not very large,
All in all the beds are good.
We had a good time,
The owner is a good person,
Private dinner show.
Large swimming pool.
We are in Sri Lanka is normal the difference.
