Great Value for the Price
I have spent one night in this pension and I must say, I am satisfied! Room was clean, hotel manager (or employee) was very friendly and willing to wait for my late check in as well as my early checkout. Would recommend :)

A terrible experience!
I attended the WMCEES conference at VŠB-TUO University in Ostrava, so I was accomdated in "U Šipku" during that event. Mostly I have very bad experiences in this Pension, but I will start from things which are rather good:
Location of Pension is about 20 minutes walk from VŠB-TUO, so if somebody is going there it is a rather good location. It is in a rather quiet surrounding. Pension has a good and free parking in the backyard - I was lucky that I caught place, but if all places are occupied in the surrounding streets there are no places to park. Rooms are rather large and light, furniture is rather modern, but obviously of low quality - many things are wobbly. Now I have to write about not very pleasant things:
First objection is behavior of owner, Mr. Šipek. He was very rude - an example, on the second day of our stay about 10 A.M. in the morning he knocked on the door and has threaten me very aggressively that I am "arguing with my mother and that I am very loud" and that he will throw us out of Pension, despite we paid everything in advance, on what he insisted. My old mother was with me and she does not hear well, also she was very slow and we had to be at University in some minutes and therefore I told her a little louder "let's go, let's go, we are in delay". This was during time when nobody sleeps, at 10 o'clock in the morning and there was nobody around us in the building, except Mr. Šipek. And that was enough for him for such an aggressive reaction - I was afraid that he would beat me up. Is that the way in which an owner or any worker working with tourists should behave?! If he thought I was too loud he could tell me that in a polite way. Only this aggressive reaction was enough for me that it spoiled me whole stay and that I would never come again in this Pension! Until the end of the stay I was scared even to whisper and that is a very uncomfortable feeling that you are not allowed to communicate with the person who is with you without being scared! Also, before this "incident" he was very unhelpful - one example, when we just arrived I asked him where is the nearest petrol station and instead of telling me he told me that I should "use navigation to find", even it was almost round the corner and he could explain me that very easily.
Breakfast if optionally served in the rooms and they don't have a common room where it would be served. Some days I had to get up very early, but some days I could sleep a bit longer. But, I had to tell them the same moment we arrived exact time of bringing of breakfast, which will be valid for all days of the stay - it is not possible to have some days earlier and some days later. Also, there are if I remember well 4 different possibilities of breakfast. But, you cannot change them from day to day, but you have to tell them in advance and have the same breakfast every day.
I have to say that lady who brings breakfast was very kind and very accurate with time of serving of breakfast. Also, when we asked her to empty waste or change towels etc., she did it every time. But, there is no cleaning of the rooms and bathroom "by default" - you have every time when you need something to ask the cleaning lady to do "that or that".
Pension does not have any staff during afternoon, evening and night, also when you arrive Mr. Šipek sends you on day of arrival a single-use code to enter the building and key waits for you at empty reception desk, but accidentally when we arrived he was there.
In summary - this is really a very strange place and it spoiled me otherwise nice stay in Ostrava and participation at the conference. I would never again consider this Pension for my accomodation! On the day of our departure the owner came up to me in the parking and greeted me quite politely, probably because he realized he had overdone his behavior. But that couldn't nullify the previous events for me and I was really happy when leaving from this Pension.

Family hotel with very simple accomodation far away from the centre.
Pension is about 15 km away from the centre.
Parking is in closed area, but You need Mr. Šípek let You in and out.
Reception is not working continuosly, You need to call about 30 minutes before your arrival and somebody will expect You. Otherwise you will stay in front of locked building.
In pension is no common room, the breakfest is served in rooms.
In the morning is the sorround quite noisy.
I have bad success, the during my short visit there was no warm water in bathroom.
All furniture and bathroom was very new, though simple.
In room is TV set and You can prepar Yourself cofee or tea.
Parking is in closed area, but You need Mr. Šípek let You in and out.

Zrusenie rezervacie
dva tyzdne pred prichodom na hotel nam volala nejaka pani a oznamila nam, ze nam zrusili rezervaciu a ze ziadnu izbu pre nas nemaju lebo sme nepotvrdili rezervaciu. V emailovej komunikacii tam nic take nebolo, ze by sme mali volat dva tyzdne pred ubytovanim a potvrdit rezervaciu. U sipku uz nikdy viac !!!

Útulný penziónik v kľudnej časti
V tomto penzióne sme preconovali jednu noc. Izby sú priestranné, zariadené novým nábytkom, TV, konvicou. Vyzerajú útulne, majú aj malý stolík. Postel však bola pomerne tvrdá a vrzgala pri každom pohybe. Parkovisko je v uzatvorenom priestore. Na krátky pobyt to úplne stačí. Recepčná bola veľmi milá a ochotná. Nevyužili sme raňajky, takže neviem posúdiť. Wifi na izbe postačujúce.
