Lovely small village on the shores of the lake Atitlan, it is a great place to get to know some of the most interesting aspects of the local Mayan Kaqchiquel culture as there are lots of cooperatives working on traditional activities such as weaving, picking coffee and traditional medicine.
Located on the southwest shore of Lake Atitlan, San Pedro La Laguna is mostly inhabited by the Tz'utujil people. A very walkable and like able city with a lot of charm. Also, a great place to come to take Spanish classes.
Certainly better than Panajachel, but still a bit ugly and down-at-the-heels, this town is famous for its stoner vibe and lakeside hangout scene. All in all, however, I prefer San Marcos across the water.
San Pedro La Laguna is a small town in Lago de Atitlan, Atitlan Lake, a beatifull lake serounded by volcanos, and many small mayan towns, an area you have to visit. - Zoola/Pinochio/Yo Mama's House = 3 good hostels, diffrent styles. The Indian Nose is a spot with a great view on the lake, go at night, so you can see one of the most beautiful sunrises you will ever see... Panajachel - The biggest town in the lake area, that has a Great Market. San Markus is another town, that has allot of yoga and meditation places. - San Antonio is another town, that has a street party every week, very authentic... -Santiago is another town, that worships a wierd doll with allot of ties, and a good market
