Warm Welcome with Notable Infrastructure Issues
El Castillo greeted us with traditional hospitality — a khatak and hot Kashmiri Kahwa — and accommodated our early arrival comfortably in the lobby.
Room & Amenities
Spacious room with mountain-view balcony as advertised. However, the bed was uncomfortable (two singles joined together), and we experienced power cuts and no running water on our first night. Blackout curtains and well-stocked bathroom were positives.
Food & Service
Breakfast spread was limited. No room service after 10:30 PM. Staff were friendly, helpful with altitude acclimatization tips, and knowledgeable about local attractions.
Location & Access
Hotel requires a 1-minute walk from the main road (no vehicle access). Parking ~100 m away.
Overall
Pleasant 2-night stay marred by power and water issues on the first night. Good hospitality undermined by infrastructure reliability concerns.

Home Away From Home
I initially booked 2 nights at El Castello through Agoda, but ended up staying 8 nights in total. On my arrival at the hotel in Leh I was greeted with a Buddhist Khata by the warm friendly staff and offered a hot energising drink of Kahwa and a home baked cookie. Just the pickup I needed after flying into 3500m on a 5.30am flight.
My deluxe room with balcony was exactly as it looked on Agoda's site. The views from the floor length windows over the town and towards the mountains were stunning. I booked a 3rd night once there as my luggage had not arrived with me from Delhi. Anu at reception and the General Manager did everything they could dealing with the airline, to get my luggage to me asap. After my return from Nubra Valley I also returned to the same room at El Castello and it definitely felt like coming home.
The buffet breakfast was tasty, nutritious and varied each morning, and room service dinners most nights for me, were delicious and plentiful and delivered to my room without delay. The shower was always hot and the heat pump warming my room very efficient. The price including breakfast was very reasonable. I had such a lovely stay at El Castello and thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting Leh.

From the moment we stepped into Hotel eL Castello, it felt like we had entered a dream nestled in the lap of the majestic Himalayas. The grand traditional welcome we received at the hotel instantly made us feel special and deeply connected to the local culture. Warm smiles, welcome scarves (khatas), and a comforting cup of herbal tea were the perfect start to what would become one of the most memorable stays of our lives.
The ambience of the hotel is something straight out of a Ladakhi fairytale. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of snow-capped mountains and blue skies, the architecture of El Castello perfectly blends tradition and comfort. The interiors are tastefully done, with beautiful wooden elements, traditional motifs, and cosy corners that invite you to unwind. Every corner of the property radiates a serene and peaceful vibe.
One of the highlights of our stay was the impeccable cleanliness and hygiene standards maintained throughout the property. Whether it was the rooms, dining areas, or the garden, everything was spotless and extremely well taken care of. You can truly feel that the team here pays close attention to detail and cleanliness, which made us feel very safe and at ease during our stay.
Our room was a delight – spacious, beautifully decorated, and with a balcony that opened up to the most stunning views of the mountains. Waking up to the sun rising over the peaks and sipping tea while watching the clouds float by was an experience that words simply cannot do justice to.
Now, coming to the heart and soul of the hotel – the service and staff. Everyone here treats you not like a guest, but like family. The staff is polite, attentive, and genuinely eager to make your stay perfect.
But we have to give a very special mention to Anu, the manager of this wonderful property. From the very beginning, Anu was not just a manager to us – she became family. Her warmth, friendliness, and genuine care for every guest are something rare and precious. She went out of her way to guide and help us plan our entire family trip, suggesting local experiences, helping with logistics, and even checking in on us after we left the hotel for local excursions. Her deep knowledge of the region and her commitment to making each guest’s journey unforgettable are truly commendable. We honestly felt like we were staying at a family friend's home rather than a commercial hotel – all thanks to Anu!
The food at eL Castello deserves a review of its own! Whether it was the local Ladakhi dishes or the delicious North Indian and continental meals, everything was freshly prepared, hygienic, and bursting with flavour. We especially loved the breakfast spreads – hearty, homely, and made with love.
In short, Hotel eL Castello isn’t just a place to stay – it’s an experience. It’s where the mountains meet hospitality, where comfort meets culture, and where guests become family. A lovely place to stay
Very nice, spacious, clean, safe place within the centre of the city.
A bit slow in service during breakfast time, else overall a very good place to stay.
The lobby is big and nice looking
The staff is warm welcoming and helpful.
The only drawback we found was approach towards the hotel because is is surrounded by narrow lanes that even 4 wheelers can not come to the hotel. But once you are inside the hotel, you will not feel a bit of any minus points.

Service accueillant et chaleureux.
Tres bonne explication de tout ce qu il faut faire pour l aclimatation et fourniture des bonnes adresses.
La propriétaire Anu est toujours là pour regler les soucis et prend soin des clients
Belle chambre et salle de bains.
Ascenceur.
Le personnel qui est toujours souriant
Wifi qui ne fonctionne pas correctement
Bon ce n est pas les chiens de l hotel mais les 2 nuits les chiens à l exterieur non pas arrêté d' aboyer.
Hotel non accessible directement en voiture mais le personnel vient récupérer et ramener les bagages
Service accueillant et chaleureux.
