At the end of June 2025, we stayed for the fifth time at Cosmos Bungalows Bira, Bulukumba, and overall had a pleasant experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful, creating a warm atmosphere during our stay.
Because it was raining often, we spent more time in our rooms.
The advice to support guest comfort activities, especially when moving from room to restaurant, is that the manager should provide umbrellas in each room and restaurant area. This is important, given the access to the restaurant quite far from our room (number 5).
In terms of internet access, we appreciate the Wi-Fi that is now available. However, Wi-Fi device placement still needs to be refined because the signal has not reached the entire area of the room — some points still have blank spots.
For food choices, it is good if a typical Bulukumba menu is available as a special dish. Given that many guests come from outside the city, the presence of the local menu will be an added value that provides a more authentic culinary experience.

Nice location but uncomfortable
The 8 bungalows are aligned between the road and the sea, in a garden with trees. Only the first 3 have a more or less partial view of the sea.
The room is tiny and very soberly equipped. A small shelf is the only storage space. Balcony equipped with an uncomfortable bench. Used bed linen and mattresses of which you can count all the springs. No air conditioning, standing fan. No WiFi.
Narrow shower room, without hot water.
Beach directly accessible by stairs, to be used at high tide.
Banana pancakes, fried rice or omelette for breakfast.
The terrace restaurant on the sea offers a minimalist menu. Unwelcoming staff: you have to go in the kitchen to wake up the staff and get a sticky card.
Unfortunately, we had witnessed a female employee being stripped by a colleague in the kitchen in the late afternoon.
Faced with the inertia of the staff and questionable hygiene, we preferred to go eat at the establishment next door.
We had booked and paid for 3 nights, but we preferred to leave after the premiere.
Too bad not to properly operate this place which enjoys a beautiful location. Essential means of transport (30 minutes walk from the village)

Distrust
Beware we had money stolen during our stay in 2 different bungalows that were locked.

Pretty bungalow in Bira seaside
Beautiful, spacious bungalow which came with a cute little attic room - I enjoyed the space for meditation and for working! The room was clean and comfortable and it came with a fun half open bathroom. Good powerful fans and nice interior design.
The staff were friendly and the owner very helpful in our communications via WhatsApp.
There is an on-site restaurant that serves a small selection of local food. The included breakfast was also pretty good with the choice of eggs & toast, pancake or nasi goreng. It would have been nice to have some filtered water, hot water, coffee & tea available as self service as is common in Indonesia, but these were available to purchase at the restaurant after 7am so it was not a big issue.
The location is a little far from the village so you will ideally need a moped to get around (the water was pretty high during our stay so walking on the beach wasn’t possible). Thankfully one of the staff members was helpful enough to take me on their bike when I needed something from the shop urgently!
The sea view from the restaurant is beautiful. There are steep steps leading to the water from the restaurant. The sea was choppy at the time of our visit but we managed to snorkel a little at the reef which was about 100 metres away - water was clear and the corals looked pretty healthy with some decent fish life around. Need to be safe and look out for the boats however as there is some traffic here!

Breathtaking view of the ocean
The time spent on the road from Makassar is worth it. The bungalows face the ocean with a covered terrace and hammock. The atmosphere is relaxing, the bungalows are well equipped (but no hot water). Breakfast is hearty.
