Such a pleasant experience

Very cozy place, in a central area of ortigia. Spacious room, clean and equipped with balcony from which you can admire the temple of Apollo. Ensuite bathroom. Very kind, friendly and super helpful staff, who provided us with useful information to better visit the island. What if I go back to Syracuse? I would definitely choose Verga house again. GF!

Unfulfilled promises

No WIFI, no breakfast, no kitchen access, no hot water
No response when called the phone number or emailed the host
Current construction with scaffolding outside our balcony was loud, along with water tank being very noisy
Bed was hard, water pressure low (no desire to shower)
Front door lock difficult to operate

Highly recommended

Excellent location. Spacious room and balcony with spectacular views. To underline the kindness and helpfulness of the lady who welcomed us.

Bad experience

Cold room without heating, very noisy and completely absent staff, I slept 4 nights, no change of linen, called many, many times but they never answered the phone, the TV doesn't work, completely disappointed and angry. NOT RECOMMENDED

Management to be reviewed and rooms to be improved

The property is in an excellent location but there are many critical aspects to review. We thought we had found a solution with a good quality/price ratio but it turned out to be just a cheap accommodation: it is still called B&B (perhaps by the previous management) but breakfast is not included, we had booked 2 rooms at the same rate but there were no 'I was given a larger one with a view of the temple of Apollo and two balconies and a smaller one with a balcony overlooking the street, the fixtures are ancient and do not allow good acoustic insulation from noise, the bed was uncomfortable with the mattress that had lived definitely better times, the basic and dilapidated bathroom with Sanitrit and related noises and inconveniences.
The improvised management deserves a separate discussion: after 9.30pm we could not access the island by car, although we had to inform the managers of the municipal ordinances and regulations about the possibility of having a tourist pass, it was not provided to us no pass and indeed we received replies with information that turned out to be incorrect (friends who had booked an apartment had the pass even before arriving); requests for information about activities and places outside the island received no response other than summary information; on the day in which the change of sheets was scheduled, in addition to the towels left on the floor as indicated, there was no service due to delays due to the August holiday (a manager should foresee certain dynamics and at least warn and apologize that the change cannot take place) we returned to the room after the beach and we didn't have clean towels having left them on the floor.
An accommodation that can be comfortable and acceptable for 1 or 2 night stays to visit Ortigia but to be avoided for minimum longer stays.
