A perfect homely stay with family
I never thought of staying with children and family at hostel with such a wonderful experience. I stayed here for a night but it was enough to get all homely stay with full of amenities to use in kitchen. It was never felt that we are away from home. All hostel was super clean and host(Jemie san) was so supportive. I definitely recommend it for 1-2 night stay.

People who weren't even guests were dominating the atmosphere in the common areas and it was awful.

The young man at the reception desk's service was very wonderful
When I asked him about a recommended day-trip hot spring, he told me about Minshuku Fukui, which also has an outdoor bath (open-air bath) that you can enter for 300 yen.
After sweating it out in the hot spring, I asked him for a recommendation for something unusual for dinner, and he recommended Izakaya Yasubei, which serves local cuisine and sometimes has sweetfish sashimi if you're lucky, so I went there. Apparently the owner is a sweetfish fisherman. I ordered trout bone sake, grilled sweetfish, soy sauce noodles, plum wine mixed with soda, and the specialty, zugani soup.
Guesthouse knot recommended zugani udon, but I wanted to avoid wheat as much as possible, so I went for zugani soup.
Zugani soup 770 yen
Plum wine mixed with soda 600 yen
Tanaka trout bone sake 1650 yen
Soba noodles 660 yen
Grilled sweetfish with soda (market price)
The total was just over 5000 yen.
On the way back, I passed by the illuminated bamboo alley and was satisfied with taking photos and videos (^ω^)
However, when I returned to Guesthouse knot after 7:00 p.m., a suspicious group of people were entering the living room and free space of the guesthouse, saying that there was still one more person coming!
Moreover, they left the entrance door slightly open so that people could enter without the entrance key, and they gathered there waiting for the staff to leave, highlighting their arrogance, impudence, and selfishness.
Thinking they were being silly, I made sure to close the door properly when I entered, but the six of us occupied two of the four tables at the back and began a damn serious meeting about work-like matters. The two of them had their laptops out, and the young woman was even recording on an IC recorder.
After that, no matter how many times I went downstairs, the meeting continued endlessly, and it was impossible to find a place to sit and relax.
In the end, the atmosphere in the lounge was filled with the oppressive atmosphere of them continuing to talk about their work for over two hours, until it was well past 9 p.m.
The atmosphere of the guesthouse, the atmosphere of relaxing, taking it easy, and enjoying a rare trip, was completely destroyed without a trace.
I was very angry at their arrogance and impudence, so I asked the group as they were about to leave if they were all staying here tonight, and the three people sitting in the front answered that they were.
That was the real thing. Even if it was true,
there would be twice as many guests as there were staying,
it is an unthinkable outrageous act to bring in the hustle and bustle of everyday life such as work, business, meetings, and conferences, which are far removed from the original purpose of a guesthouse: travel, sightseeing, relaxation, and fun.
The locals, who are not tourists, tourists, or visitors to the hot springs, have no hospitality as a town towards tourists or travelers, and it is overwhelmingly negative.
It is nothing short of a terrible outrage to ruin the atmosphere and bring work into a relaxing space.

Also, when I told them that I thought it was trespassing for people who were not staying at the guesthouse to be in there, they said they had gotten permission from the guesthouse owner, but it was hard to believe.
Why would the owner give permission to something that would be a nuisance to the guests, interfere with their original purpose, make them feel uncomfortable, and make them feel very uncomfortable?
No matter how you look at it, it is impossible.
Isn't it just that they have no choice but to listen to what he says due to human relationships and the tyranny of local power?
So, when I said I would file a complaint with the owner, the most arrogant man sitting at the back of the room got angry and said, ``You're noisy, and we're the ones who are noisy, so I'm going to file a complaint.''
He also told me that if I wanted to be alone so much, I should stay at a capsule hotel, and that I shouldn't act like I'm superior just because I'm a guest, and he was full of nasty things.
As for food, I was told that it was not allowed to eat in bed, but I felt so uneasy on the first floor (it would have been a huge negative for the whole of Shuzenji), so I had no choice but to eat in bed (after-meal snacks), but another man retorted, saying that there were free seats, so I should have come, so I protested again, saying that it was uneasy (if half the lounge was occupied by a damn serious meeting), and that it wasn't a question of whether there were free seats or not.
After that, not a single person apologized or said they were sorry, and they just said that it was over already, and they didn't seem to feel even a little bad.
Not only was I shocked, but it was extremely unpleasant, and everything was ruined at the very end of my one-week Izu trip. I couldn't sleep well because of my irritation and anger, and woke up the next morning feeling terrible. Now that I'm back home, I can't calm down from the anger at all. I could hear what sounded like a business meeting here and there, and it seemed like they were discussing what to do about tourism, but they completely ignored the tourists, hot spring visitors, and travelers in front of them, causing them trouble and making them feel very uncomfortable, which I feel is the ultimate foolish act that will significantly lower the reputation of Shuzenji itself.
Shuzenji is not only completely devoid of any hospitality that does not value tourists, but it also has no negative feelings at all, and I was left with a very strong impression that it is chaotic, arrogant, selfish, and shameless, and that as long as they are fine, they don't care about the guests.
The customer service at Guesthouse Knot is very good, and the accommodations are of a very high standard, so it is really unbearable that everything is ruined by something like this.
I don't know how influential or important the man in charge of the place, the most arrogant man, is in the local area, but I really felt that there is a fundamental lack of consideration and hospitality.
If this kind of thing is prevalent in a town that relies on tourism and where most people come for the atmosphere, relaxation, etc., then it's really the end.

Best place of the trip
The hostel is cool, trendy, clean, homely and comfy. The design is unique yet traditional. The location is perfect, in the centre of all the sights to see in Shuzenji. However, the best part of the hostel is Hai and Yosuke- they are the coolest guys in Japan and will go above and beyond to make sure you’re getting the most out of your trip. If you don’t stay here then you’re missing out big time!

A cozy well-run hostel with an excellent staff
Our party of nine stayed for four days and three nights at Hostel Knot and enjoyed every moment of the unique school tour. Our hosts were knowledgeable about Izu and generously took us around, organising wonderful workshops in calligraphy and making sushi and taking us fishing. Their hospitality was top notch. We occupied the individual rooms and one double room with tatami and liked the traditional atmosphere of the whole hostel. An unforgettable, meaningful and fun experience.

Amazing hostel
I was travelling through Japan for 3 weeks and visit a lot of places. Hostel Knot was the best accomodation during whole trip! Great atmosphere, very helpfull and friendly hosts, super clean and comfortable rooms and nice shared space.
In my next trip to Japan I'm going to stay in this Hostel!
