Extraordinary experience
We traveled through Japan in November and as part of our trip we wanted especially to visit the Ise-jingū Shrine in Ise-Shima National Park and Meoto Iwa and to stay at Amanemu to relax and calm down from our city adventures in Tokyo, Kyōto and Osaka.
We traveled from Osaka by train and were picked up at the station by a friendly Amanemu employee. The drive to the hotel took about 20 minutes.
When we arrived, we were given a very friendly welcome. We had booked the Nagi Suite. It was fantastic. A very large combined bedroom and living area with high ceilings and a great big bathroom. The view of Ago Bay was a dream. We enjoyed the spa and had some treatments. I personally had a Watsu treatment, which was a completely new experience. There was a large selection of international dishes for dinner and breakfast. We also used the room service and had some snacks in our suite.
The staff was very friendly and always pleased to take care of us. We can highly recommend a stay at Amanemu!
We can recommend a trip to the nearby Mikimoto Pearl Island, where you can watch divers dive for pearls from the sea during demonstrations.

Blissful stay - tranquility done right
From the architecture and setting to the spa, gym, and most importantly the staff, Amanemu delivered exactly what we were hoping for — a peaceful and perfectly executed escape.
I’ll admit I was hesitant to book after reading a few mixed reviews. In hindsight, I think some of those comments may stem from cultural misunderstanding. This property runs very Japanese — precise, structured, and efficient. Even the initial “welcome” email felt almost like a rule book at first. But once you arrive, you realize that this clarity is part of Japanese hospitality. Everything is spelled out thoughtfully so the experience flows seamlessly. And honestly, that’s part of why you go to Japan. Or, maybe that was the intention, write bad reviews (or no reviews) so this place remains special and untouched by influencers!!
While the operation feels distinctly Japanese, we still felt the Aman flexibility and personalization when it mattered. The staff — both local and international — embraced the culture beautifully while also understanding how to tailor the experience to us. They struck that balance perfectly.
Architecturally, the resort is stunning. Clean lines, natural materials, expansive views over Ago Bay — it all creates an immediate sense of calm. We worried that four nights (three full days) might be too long, but it was exactly right. The days naturally filled themselves: multiple visits to the spa, workouts in the gym, soaking in the onsen, biking around the property, running the nearby trail. There’s a rhythm to the place that makes you slow down in the best way.
We experienced both weekday quiet and weekend busier periods, yet the resort never once felt crowded.
We’re very glad we booked. Amanemu is not flashy — it’s intentional, peaceful, and deeply rooted in its setting. If you embrace that, it’s incredibly rewarding.
Many thanks to all the wonderful staff (of varying personalities) that made our stay wonderful - Bamba, Jesse, Catherine, Fuka, Bernice, Nishant, Ayaka, Takuto (from Kyoto), Hibiki, Hesu and of course many others that we encountered that I don't recall their names!.
We will back - hopefully in the winter time!

Pearl Wedding Journey
We finally got to come to this place that we have long admired.^^
This year, for health reasons, it has been difficult to go out, but I am glad I took the plunge.
I told them about our 30th wedding anniversary in advance, so they upgraded my room and showed me to the Nagy Suite, which has a great view, but the view of Yingyu Bay was full of openness. The hot spring in my room I requested was filled with hot water, and I was able to bathe comfortably in the evening with just the right temperature. (My family went to the thermal springs, but they seemed to be lukewarm.)
Afternoon tea was also brought to the room, where guests could enjoy tea and sweets. Dinner is also planned for in-room dining, with gorgeous food and great family satisfaction. The rice in my chest, which I would normally leave behind, was also a complete meal. Breakfast was also served in the room with an American breakfast to relax.
Watching the Aman resorts around the world on TV monitors made me want to go to all of them :) I went to Aman Tokyo, which I hope I can visit Kyoto someday.
It was the most expensive accommodation ever, but the service we received was commensurate with it and the hospitality of the staff was amazing. It is also recommended for people like me who want to relax in the room ☆

A little unsatisfactory.
I've stayed at other Asian Amans, Takas, Dalis and Ziwo and I felt that this hotel was not up to the level of hospitality I expected in Aman, perhaps because of the high level of Aman in Southeast Asia.
We arrived early, but when we checked in, we were only told to schedule a time for dinner, and there was no explanation about the facilities at all. The advance e-mail said that thermal springs should be reserved, but if you check carefully, you don't need to make an appointment. I felt like I was being left alone, without even a basic explanation of all that, or the pool opening hours.
I asked for a snack by the pool, and the water was made from aluminum cans and a disposable calatry. In other Amans, it's a proper silver fork, pours water into a glass, and the oshibori is made of cloth. But it was a pity that there was no attention to such details here.
Also, when I left, one of the receptionists did not make eye contact, sat down and looked at the computer and did not say hello.
Maybe it was busy because it was rather crowded, but it didn't have a unique atmosphere to Aman.
The restaurant is delicious, but the scenery is quite normal. It was nice to see the hot spring in my room and the stars at night from thermal springs.

High price, high standards: very good, not yet perfect
Wie spent 4 nights here - and thus longer than most other guests who usually stay two to three nights.
The Amanemu was a very nice end to our tour of Japan and represented a very welcome rest after the exhausting days in the cities.
We had booked a Mori suite, which is basically half of a semi-detached house. A very spacious, black-tiled bathroom with two opposite vanities, a spacious shower and the ubiquitous Japanese luxury toilet were part of the suite, plus a bathtub into which you could directly run hot water from the volcanic springs.
The living room had a table with two chairs, an oversized KingSize bed, a sideboard that could also be used as a desk and two day sofas.
On a balcony overlooking the sea there were two more day sofas, a table and two chairs.
WIFI and TV worked flawlessly. Minibar was free for soft drinks and was replenished daily. The suite also included two bicycles, which we used well.
Two minor criticisms:
(1) It would be great if the bed were equipped with two blankets instead of a giant blanket - the nightly argument is pre-programmed;)
(2) There were only two international channels - CNN and BBC - that increasingly broadcast the same crap (Trump Trump and Trump again). Fortunately, there was a live broadcast of a big SUMO competition on a local station, and after some searching we even found the button for the two-channel sound. But still: only 2 channels is too few.
SPA: very nice decor, very friendly service, all good.
Swimming pool - very long, good for swimming out. Sufficient loungers are available; towels and a bottle of water are served immediately upon arrival.
Food: breakfast and dinner are always served in the central restaurant. The service there is just perfect - 5 stars! - and the food too - whereby: we ate exclusively Japanese because it was so delicious.
In the afternoons we always went to the neighbouring pavilion and enjoyed mochis and tea there - and the same experience: first-class service.
Again, two minor criticisms:
(3) The dried fish served with the NEMU Menu is extremely delicious - and almost as difficult for a Westerner to eat (with chopsticks). The handed shrimp was not pulsed; with chopsticks that is tedious.
(4) The wine list is surprisingly well equipped, the sommelier has put together a nice selection. However, the prices - although of course the transport costs have to be taken into account - are a bit high (2012 Grange or 2010 Vega Sicilian Valbuena with 350,000 yen each - about USD 2500).
On the premises you move on foot, by bike and you are driven around in the electric golf cart.
It would be desirable if a few paths were laid out on the site where you can enjoy nature.
All in all, the Amanemu is a very nice hotel that gets the full score in service and cuisine and should sharpen up a bit with small things.
