I am a regular visitor to Birżebbuġa, and this was my first time staying at the South 32 Hotel. I booked a sea-view room with a balcony.
The room was very spacious, clean, and bright. The staff were incredibly hardworking, friendly, approachable, and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. I genuinely could not fault the staff in any way.
The area in and around the hotel is still being developed, so there are limited restaurants and mini markets nearby. Pretty Bay is about a mile's walk from the hotel.
I was pleasantly surprised by the range of options available at the continental breakfast. There is also a hot drinks machine in reception that is available 24 hours a day, which was a nice touch.
I do, however, have two concerns.
My first concern is the balcony door. It has an automatic locking mechanism which is not clearly marked. On my first morning, I went out onto the balcony to enjoy my coffee and closed the doors behind me because the air conditioning was running in my room. Unfortunately, the door locked automatically, leaving me trapped on the balcony.
I began to panic, but thankfully I had my mobile phone with me. I called the hotel call centre and had to wait in a queue before eventually speaking to an agent. They contacted the onsite manager, who came and let me back into my room. She explained that the fob on the inside of the door needs to be set in the horizontal position to prevent the door locking when closed. There were no warning signs or instructions on the door explaining this. During my stay, another guest was also locked out on their balcony for exactly the same reason.
My second concern is the water dispenser available for guests to use throughout the day. I think it's a great idea as it reduces plastic waste and gives residents access to cold drinking water. However, the dispenser is positioned at a low level where it is easily accessible to children. There is a tap for cold water and, right next to it, a tap for boiling water.
I witnessed a young child who had seen adults using the cold water tap and decided to try it for themselves. Unfortunately, the child pressed the boiling water tap instead and scalded their hand. I would strongly suggest relocating the dispenser or introducing additional safety measures to prevent children from accessing the boiling water tap.
Overall, I had a very pleasant stay. The staff were exceptional, and the hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Addressing these two safety concerns would make the experience even better for future guests.

We switched to this hotel from a hotel on the northern part of the island on our last day at Malta, to be closer to the airport for departure. We booked a Superior room with sea view.
The hotel is very noisy and in general bad service and no effort to remedy. Checking in at around 18:00 there were no towels at the room, and no kettle..
The South 32 hotel kept promising clean towels soon and a kettle, and kept asking for our room number, when asking for the clean towels they promised. In general it felt like they couldn’t care less and did not even say goodbye, when we left.
There was a lot of powercuts / power blackouts at our stay, which was not to blame on the hotel - but zero help to remedy from the unhelpful hotel / receptionist, not their problem.
This hotel is by far, the worst hotel stay I/we have ever stayed at. I / we do not recommend.

Do not know what is wrong with the high rating of this hotel at Trivago / Hotels.com and Booking.com, but check Tripadvisor which give a more true rating (currently 1,4 of 5) of this hotel.

The hotel is great choice. Clean rooms, friendly staff, nice breakfast, amazing pool with a view. There is a nice beach close to the hotel. Definitely worth it.

A huge disappointment – misleading advertising and deplorable hygiene.
We stayed at this establishment, and the experience was simply catastrophic from start to finish. Nothing corresponds to the advertised services.
Here are the many issues we encountered during our stay:
Arrival and cleanliness of the room: Access to the rooms is indicated from 3 PM on Booking. Arriving at 3:45 PM, our room was still not ready because a technician was doing work there. Upon his departure, no cleaning had been done: the floor was littered with wood shavings. In general, the room was extremely dirty on the floor, to the point that we had to keep our sandals on the whole time to avoid walking barefoot.
Comfort and amenities: A shame. The room was sold "with a window," but it is actually a "false window" facing a wall located barely 3 meters away. This recess is not even located outside, but in a closed adjacent part of the hotel where all the drainage pipes are situated. As a result, the room suffers from a strong, particularly unpleasant smell of dampness and stuffiness. To top it all off, we had no hot water for the shower during our stay.
Misleading services: The hotel promises access to Netflix in the rooms. In reality, a message appears on the screen indicating that the establishment simply has not paid for the subscription.
Common areas: While the pool itself is clean, the overall rooftop is neglected: dirty, under construction, with dangerous tools lying on the ground.
Breakfast: Very disappointing. The selection is extremely limited and, to make matters worse, the utensils provided were dirty.
This hotel accumulates a lack of professionalism, false promises, and a serious hygiene problem. An establishment to absolutely avoid; the value for money is nonexistent.
