An oasis in Imlil
A magical experience in an oasis of relaxation and calm.

Magical place in the Atlas Mountains
We’ve just spent a wonderful three nights at Douar Samra. It’s a beautifully authentic Berber house in the sleepy village of Tamatert, just a couple of kilometres up from Imlil.
The property itself is full of character, with thick stone walls, wooden staircases, colourful, cosy communal spaces and plenty of terraces with stunning views of the mountains.
We stayed in one of the lovely garden rooms. Our room was rustic, beautifully decorated and very cosy, with its own fireplace, toilet and shower. Outside was a lovely garden with chairs, sun loungers, a hammock and a spot for yoga. Very peaceful surroundings; we fell asleep to the sound of the stream outside our window and woke to the sound of the dawn ‘call to prayer’ and the chorus from the various village farm animals.
Breakfasts and dinners (both included as part of our ‘Winter Package’, which was great value) were served in the communal dining room, candle-lit in the evenings - a nice opportunity to chat to fellow guests about that day’s adventures. The food was delicious; a hearty breakfast of eggs, various breads/pancakes, coffee and juice. Dinner was three courses, often using vegetables from the garden, alongside delicious tagines (beer and wine available too). Packed lunches can also be ordered to take with you when hiking.
We went walking in the surrounding hills both days during our stay. The local guides (organised through the hotel) were great, very knowledgeable and patient! The trek to Tizi n’Tamatert was a particular highlight - a tough climb but worth it for the stunning views across the valleys.
For us, what made our stay extra special was the team at Douar Samra. Lovely people who took care of our every need and always with a smile. Thank you to Mohammed, both Omars, Mina and all the team for your wonderful hospitality and to Jacqueline for creating this little piece of paradise in the mountains.
We hope to come back again very soon.

Great hospitality with a stunning view
Mohammed looked after us brilliantly.
We stayed in one of the garden rooms which was beautifully decorated with comfy beds and lovely facilities.
The garden had lots of little niches and seating areas with stunning views over the valley and up to the mountains.
There were also roof terraces with similar vistas.
Dinner was delicious and breakfast was tasty and generous.

Gorgeous, relaxing, and fun
I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is. The views from our private deck were stunning, the gardens are beautiful, the hiking in the area is fantastic, the food was delicious and fresh, and the staff were warm, friendly, and helpful. Our little candle-lit room in the main house was perfect as well.
After the heat and chaos of Marrakech, it was such a joy to feel the cool breezes at night in July and sleep with the windows open. I loved hearing the calls to prayer from different mosques echoing around the valley and sunset as well.
Our most memorable outing was hiking directly from our toom to Chamharouch in Toubkal National Park where we picnicked and swam below gorgeous waterfalls. It takes a few hours but as long as you bring plenty of water it's not very difficult.
By far my favourite part of our 8-day trip to Morocco. Can't recommend highly enough!
