Quality Quality Quality
My wife and I stayed her for a week in January while hiking and exploring on Madeira and what an absolute gem it turned out to be. From the moment we arrived we realised that we had found something special with exceptional staff like Britta and Graca on reception so welcoming and helpful and the accommodation so well laid out with a heated outdoor swimming pool with beautiful views all the way to the sea. Our room was located just beyond reception as part of a three unit block with lots of space and a very comfortable bed and an outdoor area with a bistro set and recliner chairs. We also had unbrellas in our room along with every other convenience you might need on holiday. Reception had a large selection of guide books in several languages availbale to borrow as well as walking poles for those who needed them. The well laid out restaurant was spacious with comfortable seating and the staff were superb at breakfast and dinner and in particular we got lots of helpful advice from Christina who was a wonderful hostess. The breakfast was as good as anything we have ever experienced with freshly made bread and yogurts all done in their own kitchen along with fresh fruit and preserves all locally sourced and either a cold buffet or hot breakfast items always available. Dinner was so good that even though we were travelling around the island we actually ate there on three nights of our six night stay. Everthing be it fish or meat was cooked to perfection by what is clearly a very highly skilled kitchen team and the presentation of the food only made it more appealing. Hotel Atrion exudes quality and set in such a quiet relaxing location in Estreito da Calheta with access to endless Levada walks and awsome views and yet only a short drive from Calheta beach restaurants and shops. We absolutely loved our stay here and will definately be back.

A hotel to take with you anywhere
We are only two days back and already we miss Madeira and the Atrio! What an island, what a nature and hiking paradise and embedded in it this special charming little country hotel. We felt very, very comfortable from day one. We stayed in the Deluexe room in one of the bungalows, had a beautiful view of the sea, around us the well-kept garden with wonderfully blooming shrubs.
The staff is incredibly caring. How many times have we heard the phrase: “You have a holiday here!” At the hotel reception you always have an open ear, give tips for excursions and hikes, rent flashlights, hiking sticks and plenty of hiking guides free of charge. The restaurant leaves nothing to be desired: a great breakfast with homemade rolls - the coconut rolls are awesome! - freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade jams..., the dinner just as delicious, the beef a dream, Christina such an incredibly funny and charming service that we were always sad about her day off...and so we never wanted to go anywhere else than “our hotel” after a wonderful hike. If there was a way to take this hotel to any other holiday destination, we would do it immediately!
But either way, we will come back, there is still so much to discover and we are already looking forward to it!

First class for hiking couples who want to enjoy a little romance and peace!
A wonderful little hotel, completely different from the typical "hotel castles" from the brochures. In romantic country style and with comparatively few rooms we had a dreamlike tranquility here, with wonderful views. We felt completely comfortable, like with friends or family, and we will absolutely certainly come back!
The staff is very friendly, the breakfast barely exceeds - much even homemade(!). At the reception you can borrow a lot of utensils for hiking (hiking guides, sticks, lamps, ...), you get drinking water bottles for small money (supermarket price), and also the restaurant is excellent and not expensive! We didn't want to go anywhere else for dinner.
A rental car is mandatory in the location, I would say. But you should have one in Madeira anyway to be able to achieve all the great goals. The starting point for this is good (unless you are exclusively targeting Funchal (about 1h) and the East).
The hotel is about 550 m above sea level, which we perceived as very positive: It was pleasantly warm at the end of August, but not too warm, beautiful view, you are already within walking distance of a levada, and from the coast you would have to go a bit up on almost every trip anyway.
The staff is very friendly, the breakfast barely exceeds - much even homemade(!). Very nice hotel, super nice staff....good location, recommended
We stayed at the house Atrio, a very nice non-overflowing small place. Our room in the main house consists of a large bedroom, beds top and a very clean bathroom, with shower only. The room includes a small covered terrace and about 10m2 of garden area with two sunbeds plus umbrella. Great to relax after a hike... massages and sauna are also offered.
Breakfast is great, unfortunately or sometimes good there are no conventional rolls....but always fresh fruit, sliced vegetables or various egg dishes plus freshly squeezed O-juice. Pool, staff top, everything clean and well maintained...partly disturb assembly work in the area (noise).
At local festivals, you can listen to the music until about 3am, but here it is recommended to participate yourself, delicious food, meat skewers or chicken plus poncha (national drink) ojuice plus sugarcane brandy bee honey..very delicious but pure,beer brand CORAL also very delicious... Food in the hotel in the evening also very good....in Prazeras about 10min away, here too you can eat well ( La Cosa Nostra nos Prazeres, coffee time, supermarket, next to it the little Italian, all recommended....priced about German level...except Coffetime, here it is cheaper, espresso 0,90€.....

The best address in Madeira.
Excellent Welcoming. Spacious room, staff with little care. Breakfast surpassing many great hotels. Lunch dinner a simple menu but everything in flavors and fresh products. For much cheaper rates than on the north coast of the island. If I could I'd give it a sixth star!
