Un paraíso de Almuñécar
This hotel is fantastic!
I was greeted by the lovely manager, it’s is right by the sea and perfect location. The air con works without too much noise and it was overall a great stay I will certainly be returning to hostal tropical for the warm staff and location.

Misleading advertising
I think there's a misleading publicity about room charging overlooking the sea, which, yes, you could see, but from a distance, between palm trees and through a small gap. Otherwise, value for money.

Hardly got any sleep plus was told off for ants in my room
Sadly it wasn't good for me. As other people mentioned the walls are paper thin, and I heard loudly people moving about, being 'intimate', and doing other simple things that shouldn't sound like loud noise in my room at night. I spent two nights there, and each night I managed about 4h of sleep. Also, there are a lot of 'rules' on how to behave, and despite following them, you can still be told off ;) (yes, it does feel like a school dorm, not a cheap hotel). I had some takeaway food on my last night, remnants of which were in the bin, tightly knot wrapped in a plastic bag. Some ants appeared by the morning, and I was made feel responsible for that on the checkout. Basically, they check my room and told ME off for the ants! Like it is my responsibility to keep the hotel insects free. And 'no food in the room' wasn't on the long 'not to do' list, that I studied carefully ;) and followed.
Room was very small. Yes, it was clean (a basic requirement, met by many other cheap seaside hostels), but it smelt really musky. It was kitted in basic Ikea furniture, which doesn't make it a good enough hotel for me (old but clean furniture works as well especially if it doesn't smell and is fairly quiet), so I wouldn't stay again there. I had a booking for 4 people for 2 night in the near future, and I had cancelled it, happy that I could check this place out on my own beforehand. I think I rather pay a bit more in Almunecar, and not being felt like a nuisance (really for no reason) but like a paying customer.
Also, there is nowhere near to park easily, and no bar for coffee or tea, and the reception is not manned in any specific hours during the day - you need to text 10 min before arrival for check-in (impossible if you are driving).
Yes the location is nice and close to the beach - but so is for quite a few other hotels, just slightly more expensive, where you are not made feel like a student in dorm where you are not really welcomed. :/

Hola Ursula, honestly I don't understand your comments, the morning at the check out everything was fine, same for the times we met at the hostal, including when I helped you with you luggage and your surf board. I throw the garbage, you were still outside the hostal and I just told you that your room was invaded by ants where you left the garbage at the floor. I don't understand neither you reaction about some basic rules that you can find in every hotel. Again, when you checked in you seemed enthusiastic about the accomodation and the hostal, I don't see the point, really. Thanks for deleting your reservations, we have 2 free rooms to welcome customers who appreciate the simple things and who don't complain for nothing ;). Kind regards

Great place to stay on a budget
I stayed here when I met friends for a few days in early July, firstly the location is fabulous 1 minute to the beach front and 5 minutes to the old town where your spoilt for shops and restaurants. Rooms are spotlessly clean with added bonus of a TV and A/C ! I was a lone traveller but felt very safe and found the property to be very quiet and peaceful, fantastic value for money.

Bank holiday weekend break
A nice hostel in a quiet street just off the main beach road. Room was large and clean very nicely decorated. One small issue are that the walls are thin which can upset people but we were lucky and had no noise issues. We are expats so really had no problem with the TV but their are no English channels and the TV was a bit dated. Only met the reception staff very pleasant and helpful. It was left up to you when you needed room service and only came when you requested. This we prefer if it was a late night. We would return. One disadvantage is no local parking.
