Surprisingly good hotel.
Great hotel in the center of L'Escala.
Neat rooms with lovely beds and everything super clean. Great breakfast buffet including fresh fruit and delicious sandwiches. Friendly staff and all for a great price/quality ratio

Well located family hotel
Well located, family friendly and clean hotel. We had free parking and breakfast included. Breakfast, for my normal. I would have preferred there to be some hot meat like sausages or bacon, but it's not bad there were even anchovies. The triple room was not bad at all, a large bathroom and a terrace pointing east (sunshine just get up) which was very nice (I would already like one like that in my flat). The only thing I didn't like were the beds, which were springy and somewhat uncomfortable already, as were the pillows.

It's hard to expect better in this price range.
The hotel is very well located and has parking. The staff is friendly and ready to help. The room and bed were comfortable.
The bathroom was a bit dilapidated, and the shower amazingly made with taps very close to the floor, but it was clean and in working order, which is all that is required. I have often seen establishments boasting a terrace where there was only a balcony, or talking about sea views where there was none, here it was the other way around. The site was about balcony, it is actually a small terrace with a small table and two chairs where you can eat a snack, have a drink or work. You could even see the sea in the background.
Breakfast was varied (fruit, cheese, fish, cold cuts, bread, brioche, eggs, pastries...) and unlimited. The products were not exceptional and we regret that the choice does not vary from day to day, but there was something to start the day well.

Nice hotel with parking located away from L’Escala’s main tourist area
My trip around parts of the Barcelona & Girona provinces was primarily to visit the small towns & villages in the area. However, I thought I ought to pay a visit to the Empúries Roman City Ruins while I was in the vicinity (not impressed to be honest) and found Hotel Can Català located nearby. It was damned good value too.
Having eventually found & paid for parking, I dragged my case up the hill and checked in, only to be told that they have a free car park at the rear. (Yes, I know now; it says so on the website). I moved my car there later.
The hotel was OK & bustling but I just didn’t feel comfortable from the instant I stepped inside. It was slightly dowdy but there was nothing wrong with the room, the friendly & helpful reception, the breakfast included in the price & the free car park. Very odd.
There was no restaurant but Booking says there are a number in the surrounding streets; Google Maps shows four reasonably close. However, I thought I’d walk down to “the beach”, naively thinking I’d find a nice promenade with a few bars & restaurants. Yep, nice promenade but not a sign of life, never mind a bar or restaurant, whichever way I looked. Seems I should have walked down past the ajuntament to Platja de la Riba.
As I trudged back up the hill I looked along each side street to see if I could spot a restaurant, and passing the one I’d already seen on my way to the beach (the one which closes at 4.00pm most days, this being one of the days!! I asked the hotel receptionist but all she could suggest was “Chinese?” No thanks. “A bar with some tapas 200 meters away should be open”. That’ll have to do. Actually it was right up my street.

Positive surprise.
Everything super clean, excellent family treatment, very friendly owner. Breakfast better than in hotels I've been to that have 3 or 4 stars.
No complaints. Those who criticize him should make themselves look, because if you've really been there you wouldn't say anything negative. Thanks for all the family.
