Humanity over Greed

I mistakenly booked a "non-refundable" reservation through Booking.com and paid over €500. Unfortunately I tested positive for COVID the day before arrival. I immediately contacted both the hotel and Booking.com, offered to send my documentation, and requested either a refund or a reasonable date change. The hotel declined a refund and would only allow a two-day postponement, which did not solve the problem. Booking.com would also not intercede in this situation. My credit card with Wise, also said there is nothing they can do. Travelers should be aware that this property's non-refundable policy appears to be enforced very strictly, even in the case of a documented last-minute illness. The room may be excellent, but prospective guests should understand the financial risk before booking. Although I understand they are a business, a bit of humanity over greed would serve them better.
